Public Water Use

A significant proportion of Iowans get their drinking water from Public Water Systems. These include both Municipal and Rural water systems. A public water supply is defined as a system that provides water for human consumption that has at least 15 service connections or serves at least 25 people at least 60 days during the year.

Measure Description:

  • Population Served by Public Water Systems is the number of people receiving water from community water systems as reported in the Safe Drinking Water Information System.

To download a data table click on the Title Text of the data table, click "Download" on the right below the data visualization, click "Crosstab" from the listed file formats, and click "Download". A '.csv' file will then download and can be opened in a text or spreadsheet application.
