Adult Past Year Prescription Opioid Use Data

In the BRFSS survey, a state-added question on past year prescription opioid use was included. Survey participants were asked “In the past year, did you take any prescription opioid pain relievers such as hydrocodone, codeine, oxycodone, morphine, Lortab, Vicodin, Tylenol #3, Percocet or OxyContin?” Interviewers could note to participants that their response should consider prescription medication, and not medication that is available over the counter.

The BRFSS prevalence estimate is the percent of BRFSS respondents who answered “yes” to the past year prescription opioid state-added question.
