Youth 30 Day Illicit Opioids Use Data
In the IYS survey, students are asked “In the past 30 days, on how many days have you: Used an illicit opioid (heroin) or used a prescription opioid (oxycodone, hydrocodone, Oxycontin, codeine, etc.) for non-medical reasons?”
In 2018, less than 1% of Iowa youth reported they used an illicit opioid (heroin) or used a prescription opioid (oxycodone, hydrocodone, Oxycontin, codeine, etc.) for non-medical reasons in the past 30 days. Also, less than 1% of 6th graders, less than 1% of 8th graders, and 2% of 11th graders reported having used an illicit opioid (heroin) or used a prescription opioid (oxycodone, hydrocodone, Oxycontin, codeine, etc.) for non-medical reasons in the past 30 days.
